Novel Writing is a Marathon

I was scanning my archive files for "Returning Fire" and discovered my first attempt at writing it started in August of 2015. A chapter I wrote later in 2016 with the working title of "Mace Visits Anstice" eventually made it into publication. It was radically changed, and you can read it here. (By the way, a character mentioned in this snippet, Haleef, was an influential-not-to-be-messed-with religious leader. He, however, never made it into the final work.)

So what chapter is it now? What changed?
